This wine from Crete starts with aromas of cedar and dark chocolate, followed by a fine-grained tannic texture, full-bodied fruit flavors and a mineral cut to its lush character. It has an elegant cinnamon and cocoa powder finish.\n \n Producer Information\n Alexakis is the largest wine producer on the Greek island of Crete. It is a family-owned estate with an award-winning portfolio focusing largely on native Greek varieties, particularly Vidiano and Kotsifali, as well as the more international Syrah. Alexakis works with many grape growers on the island on a contract basis. This has been innovative for the island, and has allowed farmers to invest in improvements. Much work goes into classifying small, remote mountainside plots according to terroir and varieties in order to maximise quality and blending opportunities. The large, modern, Alexakis winery also services other producers and has a storage capacity of 16 million liters. As well as exporting around Europe and to the USA under the Alexakis label, the company also supplies major own-label customers in China and Russia. Founded in 1970 by Stelios Alexakis, the winery is currently run by his sons, Lazaros and Apostoli.
