The finished wine features inviting aromas of blackberry, currant, roasted sweet pepper and rich oak; the flavors are concentrated blackberry jam and plum with a touch of black pepper on very long toasty oak finish.\n \n Producer Information\n Charles Krug is the oldest commercially run winery in Napa Valley, California. Founded in 1861, the winery is located in the St Helena appellation and is owned by the Mondavi family. The wine portfolio is expansive and includes the most notable Vintage Selection Cabernet Sauvignon. Charles Krug was a Prussian immigrant, and founded the winery when he was 27 years old. He introduced the cider press as a tool for winemaking, and the original press can still be seen at the winery today. After he died in 1892, the winery went into the hands of James Moffitt, who sold it to Cesare Mondavi in 1943. Mondavi left it to his sons, Peter and Robert, until a falling out over the direction of Charles Krug saw Robert Mondavi leave to begin his own winery. Peter Mondavi Sr made Charles Krug into the legend that it is today. He introduced several innovations including research on cold fermentation, experimentation with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in what is now the Carneros region, cold, sterile filtration techniques, and aging wine in small, French oak barrels. Mondavi became President of Charles Krug in 1976, and was named one of the 12 "Living Legends" in 1999 by the Napa Valley Vintners Association. He died in February, 2016, leaving the winery to his sons Marc and Peter Jr.
