A hint of stemmy earthiness leads the way to a luxurious, expansive and velvety palate. The acidity is edgy and fresh, lifting the savory and floral components over a rich, complex berry core. Producer Information Merry Edwards Winery is a Californian estate based in the Russian River Valley of Sonoma County. It specializes in varietal wines made from Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. Merry Edwards started her winemaking career in 1974 at Mount Eden Vineyards in the Santa Cruz Mountains. In 1975, she took cuttings from a selection of Mount Eden Vineyards' Pinot Noir vines and sent them to University of California, Davis. This selection subsequently became known as UCD clone 37, or the "Merry Edwards selection". Edwards helped establish Matanzas Creek in 1977, and founded her own winery in 1997. The first vineyard, the 8 hectare (20 acre) Meredith Estate, was planted to Pinot Noir in 1998, and a second site, Coopersmith Vineyard, was established in 2001. Merry Edwards has since added several long-term leases to the portfolio, and in 2010, the estate was farming a total of 22ha (54 acres) of Pinot Noir. Merry Edwards added Sauvignon Blanc plantings to the estate vineyard portfolio in 2014 with a new property in Forestville on the lower slopes of the Meredith Estate. Merry Edwards produces an extensive collection of vineyard-designated Pinot Noir wines with Sauvingon Blanc and Chardonnay also featuring heavily.
