An interesting aromatic set starts things off as Amarena cherry, leather and puffed-rice notes swirl up from the glass. The medium-bodied wine shows flavors of Bing cherries, orange peel, sage, chalk and a trace of blackstrap molasses to go along with velvety tannins and gentle acidity.\n \n Producer Information\n Elk Cove Vineyards is a winery in Oregon, USA. The company specializes in Pinot Noir variety, though white wines and rosé are also made. It was founded by Pat and Joe Campbell in 1974. The estate has six key vineyards. The Winery Estate plots were the first to be established and sit at elevations of 750 feet (230 meters). The soils are predominantly free draining Willakenzie marine sedimentary. The Winery Estate, in particular, features the Pinot Noir clone, Pommard. Cuttings from here were used to plant La Bohème Vineyard in 1974. In turn in 1993, cuttings from La Bohème were used to plant the Roosevelt Vineyard. The selection massale method was generally used to further propagate new vineyard sites. The Roosevelt and La Bohème vineyards are used to produce high quality Single Vineyard Pinot Noirs. Windhill Vineyard practices organic viticulture and also produces high quality single vineyard Pinot Noir. Five Mountain Vineyard sits in the Chehalem Mountains, named after the view of the five volcanoes of Cascade Range. The soils are made up of loess with Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Gewürztraminer and Riesling vines planted alongside the old vine Pinot Noir. Mount Richmond Vineyard is the largest of Elk Cove's vineyards and is predominantly planted with several clones of Pinot Noir. The smaller vineyards of Clay Court and Goodrich complete the estate. The winery offers a wine club and a tasting room where visitors can try the wines.
