A light, bright and lithe Champagne that has plenty of bright, toasty aromas with grapefruit and spiced lemon-biscuit notes. The palate is rich, smoothly fleshy and has attractive build and deep, lemon and grilled-nectarine flavors. Producer Information Gosset is arguably the oldest house in Champagne. It was founded in 1584 in Aÿ, just outside of Reims, by Pierre Gosset who began making still red wines in bulk. In the mid-18th Century the Gosset family discovered bubbles in their wine as it began to ferment in bottle and, since then, Gosset Champagne has been almost continuously produced. The Gosset winery is still located in Aÿ, and all of the wines are produced there. Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier grapes are mostly purchased from grape growers who have vines located in grand and premier cru sites around the region. The varieties and plots are all vinified and kept separate until after fermentation, and then blended before bottling. The wines do not go through malolactic fermentation, giving them slightly higher levels of acidity (freshness) while they are bottled, aged and released. The range at Gosset includes a Grand Reserve NV Brut, Rosé, Blanc de Blancs and a vintage Millésime, which is only produced in the best years. The range of Celebris Champagnes are the prestige cuvée of the house, and the brut and rosé expressions are both made in an extra-brut style. Recent additions to the portfolio include the Extra Brut in 2018; the 100 percent Pinot Meunier Grand Blanc de Meunier also in 2018; and the "Gosset Brut 12 Ans de Cave a Minima" – better known simply as "12". As its name suggests, the latter is a 12 year-old non-vintage. It was released in 2020. The house style of Gosset is typically yeasty and savory in flavor. The wines are aged for a minimum of three years in bottle, with the prestige cuvée Celebris aging for almost 10 years. The Celebris Champagnes also spend some time in oak before they are bottled and, along with the Extra Brut, have the lowest dosage level of the range.
