Bruscemi was created by Mirella Buscemi, the wife of the famous Sicilian winemaker Alberto Graci who is also vice president of the Consortium covering the Etna DOC region. Mirella's wines are produced in the Graci winery and show the same spirit of authenticity and exceptional quality as Alberto's excellent Etna wines.
Mirella's only red wine is Tartaraci which is produced in small quantities of a few thousand bottles each year. The fruit comes from a unique and stunning vineyard on the north-eastern slopes of Etna, which was once owned by the famous British admiral Lord Nelson. The land is located at an altitude of 980 meters and is planted with 90-year-old Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio and Grenache vines. In the cellar Mirella adopts a very light touch, using only concrete tanks and wooden barrels to mature her wines.
The nose is a complex scent of wild rose, pomegranate and black cherry while the first sip shows finesse and freshness with lots of watery acidity supported by intense red fruit flavours. The soft tannins and refined structure will help this wine develop well in the cellar, but it can also be served now alongside tomato-based pasta dishes or a generous plate of Italian cured meats.
