The palate is an explosion of delicate flavors, nice and delightful mouthfeel. Quite delicate and smooth texture on the long finish. \n \n Producer Information \n Bodega y Cava de Weinert, also known as Bodega Weinert, are a modern, high-quality producer of the Argentine province of Mendoza. It was founded in 1975 by the German-born Brazilian Don Bernardo Weinert, but the original building was constructed in 1890 and is a beautiful piece of Spanish colonial architecture. The thick stone walls create excellent temperature and humidity for ageing wine, a process of which Bodega Weinert have a traditional approach. All red wines are aged for at least two years in very large French oak barrels, known as foudre. Up to 440 hectolitres in size and between 50 and 60 years old, these traditional barrels allow for the slow integration of oak into the wine. Winemaking processes incorporate some modern practices including destemming all grapes once they have arrived at the winery. Fermentation occurs in modern concrete tanks, but reach temperatures of 28 to 30°C (82-86°F) which is a more old-fashioned approach to winemaking. After the initial commercial harvest in 1976, the first Weinert Malbec Estrella was produced in 1977 to high acclaim. It has since gone on to be the flagship wine for Bodega Weinert. Malbec features heavily, but their collection also includes varietals of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot as well as Bordeaux blends. Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay and Cabernet Franc are also produced in select vintages. Bodega Weinert doesn’t own any vineyards. Instead, they work with select growers to source their grapes from the regions of Luján de Cuyo and Maipú. They seek out vines that are at least 25 years old, ideally over 60 years old that produce grapes with concentrated flavour compounds.
