In the glass, this offers aromas of pomelo, peaches, black cherries, peach and mirabelles, complemented by other fruity nuances. On the palate, its starts wonderfully aromatic, fruity and balanced. On the tongue, this balanced white wine is characterized by an incredibly velvety and light texture. The finale inspires with beautiful reverberation. The finish is also accompanied by mineral notes of the soils dominated by granite and clay.\n \n Producer Information\n \n Château Mont-Redon is the largest wine producer in Châteauneuf-du-Pape with more land under vine than any other wine estate in the region. It produces both red and white wines from the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, as well as wines from estate vineyards in Lirac, Cairanne, and in the wider Côtes du Rhône winemaking zone. The estate's history is one of the longest in the southern Rhône Valley, dating back to 1344 when the officially recognized vineyard was known as Mourredon. In the 1920s, the château's vineyard land greatly expanded as parcels were pieced together by Henri Plantin, whose family still run the estate today. Château Mont-Redon owns 186 hectares (460 acres) of land in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, 100 hectares (247 acres) of which are planted to grapes. Red grape varieties, including the classic southern Rhône trio of Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre, make up 80 percent of plantings. The white varieties include Viognier, Marsanne and Roussanne. All 13 allowable varieties of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape are cultivated in the estate's rocky, stony, red clay and limestone soils. In Lirac and Côtes du Rhône, Château Mont-Redon produces blended wines, all of which are either Grenache- or Grenache Blanc-dominant. The Lirac estate is planted to 32 hectares (79 acres) of vines and there are 22 hectares (54 acres) of vine in the Côtes du Rhône. The Cairanne property, Domaine de L'Oratoire St.-Martin, was acquired by the Fabre-Abeille family (descendants of Plantin) in 2020. It boasts 25 (62 acres) hectares of organic and biodaynamically-tended vines, covering both red and white wine production. It is understood the domaine will continue to be run in this fashion. For Château Mont-Redon, grapes are picked manually and destemmed prior to fermentation. Half the production of Châteauneuf-du-Pape ages in barrel for one year and 35 to 40 percent of the total volume of Lirac is aged in oak for 10 months. The blanace of both wines age in tank before being blended back with their oak-aged counterparts. Château Mont-Redon produces a single white and red Chateauneuf-du-Pape, and white, red and rosé examples from the Lirac and Côtes du Rhône appellations.
