Eclectic and dynamic red wine, ruby red colour with purplish reflexes, very harmonic taste, round, of good intensity with fragrant notes of flowers and red fruits.\n \n Producer Information\n Castello di Verrazzano is an Italian producer, located in the Chianti region of Tuscany. It produces a collection of the red wines of the Chianti appellation including Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Colorino. It also makes Toscana IGT wines using Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The Verrazzano property has a long, enduring history in Tuscany. The fortified villa is based near the town of Greve in Chianti, and is part of a property whose boundaries have gone unchanged for over 1000 years. Its origins date back to an Etruscan settlement with records of vineyards and wine production as far back as 1150 AD. The estate was the contested home of several aristocratic families, and was the birth place of the Italian navigator Giovanni Verrazzano who charted the eastern coast of the United States during the 16th Century – which is also when the Castello di Verrazzano cellars were built. Today, the estate is owned by the Cappellini family, who restored the buildings and grounds in the late 1950s. The property extends 230 hectares (568 acres), of which 52ha (129 acres) are under vine. A handful of white Tuscan varieties inluding Trebbiano, Traminer and Malvasia are planted among the more dominant red varieties. Here, an altitude of 260 to 420 meters (853 to 1377 feet) and stony-soil rich in limestone creates an ideal terroir for viticulture. The Chianti Classico Grand Selection Sassello is the flagship wine of the Castello di Verranzzano portfolio. It spends 18 months aging in barrel followed by 12 months in small barrels and then a minimum of 6 months it bottle prior to release. It is named after the Sassello flowers that surround the vineyard at harvest time.
