With a nose of black plum and juniper, this wine is ruby to the eye. Juicy in the mouth, it offers soft tannins and flavors of cranberry, pomegranate, toffee and lavender. A burst of Sevilla orange dominates the finish. \n \n Producer Information \n Barkan Winery is a large Israeli wine producer located in Kibbutz Hulda in the Judean plain, 35km (22 miles) south of central Tel Aviv. The winery grows and sources fruit from some of Israel's best wine regions: from Galilee in the north; to the Jerusalem Mountains and the Yehuda Plains; to Mitzpe Ramon in Negev in the south. The estate was founded in 1990 by Yair Lerner and Shmuel Boxer, but has a history that dates back to the end of the 19th Century. It is one of Israel's largest wine producers and around 13 million bottles are produced annually. Barkan's vineyards span 6 square miles (10km) with more than 890 hectares (2200 acres) planted to dozens of international grape varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. The winery produces six different ranges of red and white wines: Altitude, Special Reserve, Reserve, Classic, Superieur and the top Assemblage Series. The Assemblage Series consists of three different blended wines from three growing regions: Eitan from the Jerusalem Mountains, Reichan from the estate's Alma Vineyard in the Upper Galilee, and Tzafit from the Judean Hills. The latter is a unique blend of Marselan, Caladoc, Carignan and Pinotage, while Eitan and Reichan are blended from more familiar varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot. All three wines are aged for a year in oak barrels before release.
