Toscana is concentrated and voluptuously textured. Rich, ripe, mellow, structured, packed with berry fruit, and intriguing nuances of underbrush, spices, and incense.\n \n Producer Information\n \n Fuligni is a family-owned estate, located on the eastern side of Montalcino. It is known best for its Brunello di Montalcino produced exclusively from Sangiovese Grosso grapes. The estate has around 10 hectares (25 acres) of mostly Sangiovese vines, split between four vineyards. These are found primarily located on east- or southeast-facing slopes with rocky soils. The cellars are located at Cottimelli in an 18th Century residence which was once the home of Medici grand dukes. The Fulignis are originally a Venetian family whose long history includes service as mercenaries in the court of Edward III of England in the 14th Century. Luigi Fuligni was given an estate in the Maremma when recruited as a general for the Duke of Tuscany in 1770, and members of the family moved to Montalcino to make wine in 1900. The Fuligni Brunello di Montalcino spends around 30 months in large oak barrels, and is then aged for a further 18 months in bottle. The Riserva, which is only made in the best years, spends 36 months in barrel and two years in bottle before its release. Fuligni also produces a Rosso di Montalcino, Ginstreto, from selected parts of the vineyards, as well as an IGT Toscana from a blend of Sangiovese and Merlot.
