Bright garnet red, with a noticeable purple rim. Nose with a very clear presence of ripe red fruit and stone fruits, such as cherry. After light aeration, traces of fruit jam appear, followed by sweet notes of coconut and patisserie. Silky on the palate, with sublime tannins from start to finish, and a richness of texture from the high glycerol content. Long and persistent, with clean and enjoyable fruit notes appearing again, followed by palate enveloping tannins.\n \n Producer Information\n Celestino Navajas Mature established a winery in Fuemnayor in 1870. A decade later Don Celestino sent his son Alejandro to Bordeaux to study. The latter would, in due course by the property which became Bodegas El Montecillo. José Luis Navajas represented the third generation of the family, taking over the management in 1943. Trained in Burgundy he introduced innovations such as cold maceration. On retiring without heirs in 1973, he sold the winery to the Osborne family. Two years later a new facility was built in Navarrete. Innovations since the turn of the millennium have included new Ganimede tanks and GPS-controlled vineyard systems.
